Another amusing love story

Of the many ways in which people fall in love, I happened to witness two which were highly amusing if not weird. Here is the other one.

This category is what I would call ‘accidental love which you start to enjoy after a while’. This case I am going to describe actually has four stories within it! There was this particular friend of mine (lets call him Zen) through college who was a very well talked about guy in the ladies circle of our college. He had a charm of his own with them. Most of them fell for his smooth talk and empathizing nature.

Now that we are out of college, he remains the same. Only this time he tries his magic on his colleagues at the software company he works in, which incidentally did not have any dearth of good looking girls. I give him due credit for his looks though, on which he spent almost two-thirds of his salary every month. There was no reason why any young girl would not want to be in his list of close friends.

But then, he had his philosophy of maintaining certain distance from all of them. I don’t know the exact reason, but it may be because of the ‘not available’ tag that he felt would be associated with him if he started hanging out with someone particular. Anyway such was his hold on the ladies.

One fine morning, as I was checking my mails over coffee in my office, I got a frantic call from Zen on my mobile.

“Man!! I am in deep trouble”

“Hey Zen! What’s up dude? What’s the matter? You seem very excited…”

“Know what? I have received love letters from four different girls today morning”

“WOW!! You lucky bastard!!!”

“Lucky my foot. I am not joking here. All of them are damn serious, man!!!”

“Oops…”

I didn’t know what to say. I also got a bit panicked. What was this! Some kind of stunt or record he was trying to break?

“Each of them has written me page long mails professing their undying love and how they always knew that I had an eye for them since long”, he went on breathlessly.

I could very well imagine his situation now. This time he really seemed to be in deep trouble. But somehow I ended up laughing and he ended up banging the phone.

To cut the long story short, let me tell you what exactly happened. One of Zen’s specialties which I didn’t mention was his obsession with technology. He was a complete tech-freak. Give him any gadget/software/appliance and he would research it and give you a complete listing of all of its pros and cons. He was our best bet on which software to install and which to chuck out from the unlimited mess we used to download with the advent of broadband at our homes.

He reveled in the happiness he felt when he would show off his skills in using all the unheard of features of any software and complete his work in the most efficient way with the least amount of work and time. One particular feature which he used exclusively was the mail-merge facility. Through this, the person receiving his mails would not find anybody else’s name except his or hers in the ‘To’ field as well as in the body of the mail.

Now it so happened once during a night out at office that our charmer was not quite in his senses. He was on his usual blind forwarding spree and he just forwarded some love and friendship poem to his list of contacts. Now comes the clincher. Accidentally, he signed off the mail with a ‘Love, Zen’ and went home.

These two small words with a comma and technology thrown in, created havoc in his life for quite some days. Four of his female fans who got the mail thought it was a ‘proposal’ from him especially since it was apparently a private mail addressed only to them. Their brains became mush and their fingers started dancing on the keyboard, bringing out all the hidden desires and emotions on their reply mails.

He had a really tough time balancing the situation telling each one of them about the accidental mistake and also avoiding any embarrassment to them considering the way they had poured their hearts out. He sent separate explaining mails to all of them. At least that’s what he told me, although I strongly believe he didn’t send it to one particular girl among them.

It seems he was thoroughly impressed with her thoughts about him and wanted to check out his chance with her. One thing led to another and these days I see them together almost everywhere. And that’s how my friend escaped from this life threatening situation alive and in love. I am happy for this guy, he sure did give me a handy hint on how to propose to girls without the fear of getting rejected 🙂
